Codeyzer Screen collects, stores and shares no personal data. Picture, audio and remote-control input flow only between your Mac and your Android/HarmonyOS tablet: locally over a USB cable or Wi-Fi, and when you connect from away, through your own Tailscale account’s end-to-end encrypted tunnel. No data is sent to Codeyzer servers — we run no backend.

Device Permissions

The Android app uses only these permissions:

PermissionReason
INTERNETTCP communication with your computer inside the local network (LAN); and, if you turn on remote access, setting up your own Tailscale tunnel.
CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATEFinding your computer automatically on the same network (mDNS/Bonjour discovery).
FOREGROUND_SERVICE FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACKKeeping the connection alive in the background while streaming (so the operating system does not cut it).
WAKE_LOCKKeeping the operating system from freezing the connection while streaming, especially with the screen locked.
POST_NOTIFICATIONSShowing a status notification while streaming.

The USB connection is made with Android Open Accessory (AOA) and needs no special runtime permission (the physical connection is enough). The Mac app uses these macOS system permissions: “Screen Recording” (ScreenCaptureKit) to capture the screen — the picture is mirrored to the tablet live only and is never written to a file; “Accessibility” for remote control (applying pointer/keyboard input from the tablet on the Mac); and “Automation” for some desktop gestures. Your remote-control input (keystrokes, pointer movement) travels only between your tablet and your Mac over that same connection — it is not recorded, not stored and not sent anywhere.

Network Traffic

  • USB mode: the AOA protocol between computer and tablet. There is no IP traffic.
  • Wi-Fi mode: your computer connects over TCP to the tablet on the same local network, with mDNS (Bonjour) service discovery (_codeyzer-screen._tcp). This traffic does not leave your local network.
  • Remote access (optional): when you connect from away, picture, audio and input flow directly between your devices through your own Tailscale account’s end-to-end encrypted tunnel. The tailnet is yours and the account is yours; because we run no server, your traffic does not pass through us. For Tailscale’s own privacy policy, see tailscale.com/privacy.
  • Update check (Mac only): the Mac app checks for and downloads new versions from GitHub Releases. That request carries no personal data (beyond standard connection metadata) and is entirely separate from the stream. The tablet app gets its updates from the app store.

The app does not connect to Codeyzer servers and contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDK.

Third-Party Services

No tracking, analytics or advertising SDK is integrated. The only third-party component is the embedded Tailscale networking library (open source, BSD-3-Clause) used by the optional remote access feature. If you turn that feature on, you sign in to your own Tailscale account from inside the app; your devices join your own tailnet and traffic flows through that tunnel. If you never turn the feature on, the component stays idle. For the setup and the security posture in detail: remote access.

Children’s Privacy

No data is knowingly collected from children under 13. Since the app collects no data at all, there is no practical issue in this respect.

Data Storage

The app’s local settings files (on Android data/data/com.codeyzer.screen/, on the Mac ~/Library/Application Support/Codeyzer Screen/) hold only:

  • App preferences (e.g. launch at login, language)
  • Whether first-run onboarding is complete
  • A local record of connected devices (device name and id) and per-device preferences (e.g. tablet lock, “Wi-Fi only” transport, display layout and calibration values) — for automatic reconnection and trust; kept on the device only
  • If you turned on remote access, the device’s tailnet identity and network keys — kept on the device only

These files stay on the device, are not sent to Codeyzer, and are deleted when you uninstall the app.

The Mac app has an optional diagnostic bundle feature: a local file is produced only if you create it (with a keyboard shortcut), and it leaves the app only if you share it (for example by attaching it to a support e-mail).

Policy Changes

If this policy is updated, it will be published at screen.codeyzer.com/privacy. For significant changes, a notice is shown inside the app.
